Alta Vista

.. is the classical one of the full text search machines.

For a good placing in Alta Vista the following things should be considered:

  • the keywords should stand in lower case in the title
  • In particular with tables you should note that your navigation elements do not appear to the side in the HTML code before actual contents.
  • define attribute img tags using your important keywords
  • set up only keywords, which are also actually visible on the site as normal body text
  • if the search word occurs in your Domain (in the path is not enough), then you should improve ranking.
  • the entire page should be large less than 64 KByte.

Inktomi

Most well-known search machine with Inktomi results is probably Hotbot; longer time also Yahoo used Inktomi, since July 2000 now Google took this role over. However, Inktimo delivers search results to big searchengines like AOL SEARCH.

Ranking algorithm

  • The glossary words should occur max. three times into meta keywords tag. The most important keywords ( TOP 5" ) first.
  • Caution with tables: The relevance of search words sinks
substantially, if they are located deeply in tables nested. Try
to note the glossary words outside from tables.
  • Important: Inktomi is not a searchengine by itself, but supplies data for other searchengine operators. These can influence the ranking in certain way; therefore these notes for Inktomi of basic nature are and can of one to the other Inktomi search machine differently look.
  • Link Popularity is important for Inktomi , in order to get many
pages permanently into the data base.

Google

Google searches also with Yahoo and is apart from its popularity rising anyway already therefore absolutely into the ranking strategy to be referred.

  • Keyword matching (number in relation to the position and text quantity)
  • Links from other websites to yours ( link popularity )
  • Domain ( for example : if you are offering books, the domain "rare-books.com" will be much better than "harrys-website.com" )

Note, that Google only looks to page title and body text . The better the matching of page title and body text is the higher Google will list your site. AND : the more words your website contains overall ( visible words ) the more matches are needed for good ranking results there.

Basic rule : for every 100 words on your page you need 3 matches.
So if one of your "Top 5" keywords is "books" and your page have 200 words , the word "books" have to be repeated 6 times inside your body text.

( check your keyword matching is part of our additional services )

Lycos

  • Keyword matching ( in relation to the position and
    text quantity)
  • Title and Body have together at least 75 words to
contain, otherwise nothing is taken up

altaVista

  • Number of Keywords
  • position of the Keywords (near top of sourcecode)
  • the density of the Keywords.

The more near the Keywords together stands, the for more counts the site.
