"Link Popularity" becomes even more important, not
only because search machine hero No.1 Google sets on it.

The more other websites are having links to your site the better your ranking will be !

Interested, how popular your site is in the web ?
A Website called "Marketleap" scans the web in realtime, checking referes linking to you. You can see the results comparing to other websites ( wow, we wish we would be like amazon.com ).

Links on your website / filenames

Also links to other pages on your site can contain searchwords.

For example :

A navigation link like "rare books" refering to the page
"rare-books.htm" on your website is much better than "book 038" refering to a "94486temp.htm" page .

Matches of the "Top 5" keywords inside text-based links are very helpfull !

Links / graphics

If you use graphics for website navigation, set up "ALT" tags including short descriptions ( keywords ) for them.

Site structure

Help the robots ( and yourself ) ! If you must announce next time a website, try it with an extra table of content page for searchengine robots only ( name it "robots.htm" to keep the overview ). This page contains nothing except hyperlinks to ALL single pages of your website. With the NOINDEX METATAG you prevent that this "spider page" become listed in the searchengines.

If you use this technic the right way, all single pages of your websites will be indexed and shown as search results. Remember that EVERY single page needs an unique title with words matching the text content of the body.
